Yours for the Night

cover of Yours for the Night

Congratulations to Gladys, you are the winner of Tawny Weber’s Double Dare. I’ll be contacting you for your snail mail address (or you can email me on skully at skullybuzz.com if you see this first) and mailing out your prize!

This time I’ve got an autographed copy of Virginia Kantra’s Sea Witch. She’s a great writer and a really nice person, too. I’ve met her at several RWA functions over the years. So, post a comment, (you must type in your email address) and I’ll enter you in the drawing for Virginia’s book. I’ll also add you to my newsletter for updates on all the fun stuff and releases, too. I’ll announce the winner on the February 9th blog! Good luck!

Because all of you have been so great supporting me by coming out to read my blog every other week, I’m going to give you a special sneak peak of my new cover for Yours for the Night. It’s not even up on the website yet. This one is out in November 2009. I turned in the manuscript to my editor on Friday. For those of you who aren’t writers, you can see how early the publisher starts on things. I just got the cover, but the back cover copy (BCC) was given to me at the end of October. I have to admit that I didn’t really like what I was given. I felt it made my girls sound self-centered, all about me-me-me. Okay, let’s be honest, I thought it made them unappealing bitches. I didn’t think readers would want to read about them. They do have valid reasons for the life they’ve chosen as “courtesans.” My editor understood what I was saying and let me rewrite it! So that final draft is going in on Monday. Of course, then I’ll have revisions and edits and galley proofs of the actual manuscript. Fair Game is out in June, and I just did the galley proofs on that one! So by the time a book is out in the stores, it’s anywhere from 4 to 6 months since I last saw it. And by that time, I can read it and almost have forgotten the story!

I’d love to hear what you think of the cover for Yours for the Night. BTW, this is the first book, there will be at least one more (no title or cover or release date yet), and hopefully more to come!

Oh, one more thing. I’m posting this on Sunday night because my brother is in town visiting and my mom, sister and I are taking him down to Hearst Castle. I won’t have a computer or access to email until late on Wednesday when I get home. So if I don’t reply to your posts right away, that’s why! I’m not ignoring you, honest! Now, Skully, don’t forget your camera!

  1. I have one word to describe the cover, “WOW!” My husband doesn’t read romance novels, but one look at the cover and it might just change his mind (LOL) I never knew how long it took for a book to come out. After you explained the process, now I know why. I’m really excited to read the new book. Hope you are having fun with your family.

  2. Hi Jas, I agree with Rhonda I think some guys might be tempted to read your book with that cover! That’s great you were able to write the BCC since the first was not to your liking. A lot of writers don’t get any say on their cover or copy.I read a novella by Virginia and I didn’t want the story to end and I read a bit about Sea Witch awhile ago and it sounds really good. Hope you remembered your camera and had lots of fun.

  3. The cover for “Yours for the Night” is fabulous! I love the excerpt for “Fair Game” that I read on your website.I hope you are having a great time with your family!

  4. Wow, ditto what everyone’s said–that’s one gorgeous cover! I like the colors and arrangement–sexy and classy at the same time.Hope you enjoy Hearst Castle! We visited years ago and it’s an amazing property! Happy exploring! (Those pools are especially beautiful…)Thanks for the contest, too 🙂

  5. I love the cover. It is so hot. I’ll pick up the book just for it (even though I pick up everything you write). Thanks for putting my name in the hat for the contest.

  6. Wow! Thank you everyone for such a wonderful response to the cover! I’m so glad you all love it and even think a husband might buy it! I definitely think a man would at least pick it up.

You’re right, Dena, a lot of authors don’t get any say at all in what gets put on the back of the book, so it was really great that my editor let me have a whack at it. I did remember the camera, too!

And thanks, everyone, I did have a wonderful time with my family. We laughed a lot and had tons of fun. It was also fun to see Hearst Castle after so many years. The weather was gorgeous, too. I’ll have some photos for the next blog.

  7. I’m so glad you think the cover is hot, Virginia! Thank you!

My editor called and I’m working on the revisions for the book now! Wow, I can’t beleive she read it so fast! Whoohoo!

And thanks for your email, Sarah!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week!

  8. Mon, Cheri! Thanks for stopping by! i’m glad you love the cover. I’m very pleased with it, as you can tell. And gosh, those RITA books, I’ve got a stack, too! For those of you who haven’t heard of it, the RITA is the academy award of the romance industry. RWA announces finalists in March and then we have a big shindig at the National conference in July when all the winners are announced!

  9. Jasmine, I love the looks of the cover!! I am new to reading your books; have ordered THE FORTUNE HUNTER and am waiting for it to arrive now; looking forward to becoming a new fan.
