Have you ever met a courtesan?

Let me tell you the origins of the Courtesans Tales. I wrote several stories for Berkley Books, and now you can read them all. So, where did the idea come from? Well, I met a very interesting woman in the nail salon. She usually had her nails done right after me. So of course there was always a little overlap while my nails were drying and she was having her old polish removed. We got to talking over several appointments. And I learned the most extraordinary thing about her. She was a courtesan! I suppose you would call her an escort. Men paid her to go on dates with them. And, well, yes, they paid her to do more. Many men loved to do what she called “the girlfriend experience,” where they treated her like their girlfriend, took her on dates, bought her flowers and dinners and gave her presents, even though they were paying her. Being a writer, I found it fascinating. You just don’t expect to meet a courtesan in your nail salon! I decided, with her wholehearted endorsement, to write a series. My editor loved the idea. And the Courtesans Tales were born!
Of course, I didn’t want to write tawdry tales. I wanted my stories to be sexy, sensual, titillating, and very romantic. I also wanted my courtesans to have their happily ever after, even if it wasn’t a traditional HEA. So I created an exclusive agency with a very sympathetic madam who arranges special dates for consenting adults who want the same thing. No coercion, totally consensual. And she calls her agency Courtesans. Of course, the first story was The Girlfriend Experience.

Surprise Sale!

I’ve also got a surprise sale for you! My good friend Kathy Coatney is offering her book Forever His for free! I loved this beautiful story. Kathy’s small-town romance novels are always so heartwarming. I’ve enjoyed every single one. Forever His tells the story of Sam Parker who has returned to Hope’s Crossing and leaving his baseball career behind. Here’s more about the story.
He walked away to chase fame on the baseball field. She stayed behind to build a quiet life in the only place she’d ever called home. Now, a decade later, the boy she loved is back, but the man he’s become might break her heart all over again.
Sam Parker was everything to Emma Delaney—laughter, passion, and the promise of forever. But their dreams pulled them apart. He left Hope’s Crossing chasing glory, while Emma clung to the safety of the only life she knew. She told herself she hated him for leaving, but deep down, she feared she wasn’t enough to make him stay.
Now retired and burdened by his own regrets, Sam returns to a small town that feels more like a memory than home. He’s there to care for his estranged father, Joe—a man he’s never seen eye-to-eye with. But as Joe battles leukemia, every tense exchange between father and son cuts deeper, leaving Emma caught between them.
Emma’s determined to bring these two stubborn men together, even if it costs her everything. Because no matter how much time has passed or how deep the wounds run, her heart has always belonged to Sam.
